Cabinet Wraps

Refurbish rather than Replace - with Architectural Films from name brands 3M and LX Hausys

Before looking at the cost of completely replacing all of your cabinets, consider wrapping them with an Architectural Film. Refurbishing rather than replacing your cabinets can save you time and money, as well as eliminate the hassle of losing functionality while the project takes place. Plus, with a bit of patience and know-how, you can even Do It Yourself.

Benefits of Architectural Films

  • Available in hundreds of unique patterns including solid colors, wood grains, metals, leathers, textiles, marbles, and stones

  • Easily cleaned with water and detergent - also highly durable, even against hospital-grade cleaners

  • In the case of scratches or dings, damage to the film can be fixed in minutes with a small excess piece of material

  • Fire Safe - most materials meet or exceed NFPA 101 “Life Safety Code”, Test Method ASTM E84 Class A fire rating

Figuring Out Cost

The first step to figuring out what a refurbishment might cost you using architectural film is figuring out how much material you need. This includes deciding if you will be wrapping just the fronts or both fronts and backs of the doors, any exposed surfaces of the cabinet bodies themselves, the shelves and interior panels of the cabinets, etc.

Once you decide the areas you want to cover, you can start measuring them - keep a full list of your measurements as you go. For every piece you measure, we recommend adding 2” in both dimensions to your measurements. You will want to add all your measurements up to figure out the total amount of material you need. Architectural Films come pre-manufactured in 48” wide rolls. Depending on the sizes of the various pieces you need, you will probably be able to fit a couple or even several pieces next to each other across the 48” width of the material. Adding all of this up can be a bit complex - You may find it easiest to map out all the pieces you will need on some scratch paper. In the end you will come up with a total roll length that you need in feet. For example, 48” width by 164’ length.

The final step is deciding if you want to take on the project yourself, or hire an installer. If hiring an installer, we recommend hiring someone who is certified with Architectural Films. 3M keeps a current national list of certified installers that you can search Here.
