Custom Wall Wrap Graphics for WORK
The owners of WORK hired us in late September of 2022 to help put some of the finishing touches on their brand new fitness training center in Meridian, ID. They had pre-designated four 12-foot and four 8-foot walls for custom-printed wall wraps in the entry, hallway, and bathroom/changing rooms of the new gym.
One of the owners, Jeff Burmeister, already had a vision in mind of what he wanted the walls to look like, including a collage of old-timey black-and-white photos of the Treasure Valley, ID area. He put in the time hunting down hundreds of photos and painstakingly laying them out into a repeating collage pattern for 4 of the 8 walls.
Time was of the essence on this one, as several of the final steps to opening the gym couldn’t be completed until the wall wraps were in place, so we jumped into production as soon as possible. Jeff sent us his design files as he finished each one, so we printed in stages and took as much as we could to install each day.
Before Wrapping - Wall Prep
The walls were pre-destined to be wrapped from the very start of the gym build-out, so they left the drywall untextured and unpainted in those areas.
Acrylic adhesives bond poorly to raw drywall, so a sealant layer had to be applied and allowed to dry before we could wrap them. Unfortunately our go-to Zinnser Gardz surface sealer is almost completely out-of-stock across the whole US at the time of writing, so we had the contractors seal the wall with a layer of water-based polyurethane. The walls were allowed to dry for ~4 days before we started wrapping them.
Installing The Wraps
After the sealing coat was allowed to dry/off-gas over the weekend, we jumped into installing the wraps Monday afternoon.
No construction is perfect, and the walls still had a bit of rough texturing and overspray. We tackled this with a combination of a plastic scraper and sand paper to get the surface smoother, before giving the wall a final clean and installing the vinyl.
Overall it took the 2 of us about 7 hours spread over 2 days to wrap all 8 walls.
From the first phone call with Jeff, through bidding, file setup, printing, prep, and install, the whole project took 1 week. When all was said and done, we had installed 837 square feet of material.
Round 2 - A Few Additions
A few weeks later the owners of the new gym contacted us again for a few added items they were hoping to have in-place before their grand opening. They added one more wall wrap at the end of the hall to help hide the breaker box, an etched vinyl graphic to the glass door for safety, and a foamcore sign panel for behind the reception area.
