3M DI-NOC Abrasion-Resistant Vinyl vs. Regular Vinyl: Durability & Cleaning Test!

Vinyl wraps have become an essential tool for customization, protection, and aesthetic enhancement in various applications. In a recent video, Randy Miller from RM Wraps conducted a thorough test on abrasion-resistant (AR) vinyl to compare it with regular vinyl in terms of durability, cleaning, and resistance to wear. The results? Quite surprising! Let’s dive into the details of this insightful experiment.

    Introduction to the Test

    • The video is focused on testing the abrasion-resistant (AR) Dino material against a regular version.

    • Various methods will be used for testing, including:

      • Markers

      • Sandpaper

      • Keys (or similar sharp objects)

      • Cleaning solutions like Invisible Glass Cleaner and Goof Off.

    Material Overview

    • The AR version has a slightly different appearance:

      • A milky look due to an added clear coat for resistance.

      • A different sheen visible from certain angles.

      • A slightly different texture when touched.

    • The materials are available on the RM Wraps store.

    Testing Process

    1. Marker Test

      • Applied marker to both materials.

      • Observation: The AR version looked duller compared to the regular version.

    2. Pen Test

      • Similar test with a pen; results were comparable.

    3. Sandpaper Test

      • Used 220-grit sandpaper to simulate wear.

      • Observation: Both materials showed resistance, but not a major difference.

    4. Cleaning Test

      • Used Invisible Glass Cleaner and rubbing alcohol.

      • Observation:

        • Both materials cleaned well.

        • Some marks remained on the AR version.

    5. Goof Off Cleaner Test

      • Observation:

        • The regular vinyl cleaned better, leaving fewer marks.

        • The AR version retained minor residue.

    6. Sharp Object Test

      • Used a sharp tip to scratch the materials.

      • Observation:

        • Both showed similar scratch marks.

        • Heat was applied to check if scratches faded (no significant improvement).

    Final Verdict

    • The regular vinyl performed slightly better in cleaning and durability.

    • Metallic versions of both materials highlight imperfections more.

    • User Recommendation:

      • Regular vinyl is preferable for most users.

      • AR version may still be useful for specific needs.

    Conclusion

    • The RM Wraps store offers both vinyl types with quick shipping.

    • Viewers are encouraged to request additional tests.

    • More experimental videos are planned in the future.

This video is about removing the 3M Di-Noc Architectural Films after 2.5 years on the refrigerator.

Randy used a heat gun to soften the vinyl and the glue, making it much easier to peel off the old vinyl.
